Houstons of Bendigo

Our Houston family left Ireland in 1853 aboard the ship "Australia". They had two children in Sydney before moving down to Bendigo where a further 9 children were born. Sadly only five of their children made it into adulthood. The following is families of those surving children.

I am researching the Irish/Scottish roots of this family. James Houston married Jane Reid on the 18 September 1852 at the Ballymena registry office in Antrim Ireland. At the time of marriage James was living at Aughnahoy Antrim and Jane was Gortford Antrim. They had two children in Ireland, both dying before they reached Australia. James father was William, both father and son were weavers. Janes father was Bernard. Both sets of parents were deceased before James and Jane came to Australia. On shipping records it states both James and Jane religion as Church of Scotland.
I have no sibblings to either James or Jane, nor do i have any other information about their families in Ireland. Any help at all would be most welcome.
