Includes NotesNotes for Walter Grey Dorward:
In1851 Census as Railway Labourer.
On Marriage Certificate (Forfar& Dist) as Pavement Quarrier
In 1861 Census as Railway Labourer Glassel (Kincardineshire)

I believe that I am the 3 x great grandson of the David Dorward and Mary Bean mentioned in this correspondence.
One of their sons was George who had a son, Walter, the last of 4 children, born about 1830.
Walter had a child by Margaret Esplin but they were never married, Margaret died soon after. Walter subsequently married one Isabella Dorward (I have never been able to establish a relationship)and had a large family, at least 4 daughters and a son. Most of these were born in the parish of Kincardine O'Neil and the records there use the Durward spelling except for the last born.
I would like to find out what happened to Walter. He disappears from the records in Kincardine O'Neil about 1869 and one suggested line of thought is that he emigrated, probably to America, about that time.

Bruce - I have your family tree in my records but do not go beyond Jane Dorward, daughter of Walter Grey Dorward. Suggest you contact me at mkenny@ptd.net.

The information I have about Walter's places of residence in Toronto lists him first as DURWARD then, with a few wobbles, this becomes DORWARD. His descendants that I have traced use the Dorward form and that, as far as I know, covers all his sons' issue. Walter's grave has a memorial erected by his wife (maiden name also Dorward) also covering Walter Jnr., and the Dorward form is used.

Record, http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl, In freecen.rootsweb.com, Walter is 14, an
agricultural labourer, not living at home. He is living with an unrelated group of people in the parish of Rescobie. Walter DORWARD shows up for the first time in the Toronto city directories in 1875. He is listed as living at 61Douro St., his occupation, labourer. This shows that the Dorwards immigrated to Canada in 1874 or earlier. However, if they had the son David in Toronto, then they came in 1873 or earlier. In the 1901 census his daughter Jennie is listed as having immigrated to Canada in 1872.

In 1877 the DORWARDS are listed in the Toronto City Directory at 66 Niagara St. Occupation, labourer. In1879, Walter is living at 195 Niagara St., a labourer. In the 1881 Toronto City Directory, Walter is still listed at195 Niagara St., a labourer. There are no other DORWARDS in Toronto. Keeping in mind that Isabella Dorward Fallahay’s first child (Evaaka Alberta) was born in 1899 when Isabella was 20 years old, Isabella was most likely born in 1879 at this address. In the 1883 Toronto City Directory, Walter DORWARD is listed at 54 Claremont St. No FALLAHAYs are
listed. Some time between 1883 and 1901, the Dorwards moved to 130 Claremont St. ., (2) 1841 Census of Angus, Walter Dorward, age 14, agricultural labourer, born in Angus, census place Rescobie.
