The Waterman Howland Family Home Page

I am currently trying to research the Waterman Howland family. I have not had much difficulty in doing so, until I try and find Waterman's ancestors. I have been working on this family for sometime now and have been unable to find any information on Waterman's life prior to his marriage in 1804.In 1804, he married Mary Ann Wilson, daughter of Ami and Anna Munro Wilson. Mary was called "Polly" by her family. She was born in Plainfield, New Hampshire on July 6, 1787. They married in New Haven, Addison County, Vermont, on Feb. 1, 1804. They had eight children. The children are: Electa, born abt 1805; Wilson, born abt 1807; Cordelia, born abt 1811, Watterman Jr., born abt 1809; Norman, born abt 1813; Leucretia, born abt 1815; Louis, born abt 1819, and Hiram Dorman, born in 1823. All of these children were born in Vermont with the exception of Hiram. Hiram was born in Orleans, Ontario County, New York. Sometime between Louis' birth and Hiram's birth, the family moved to the Palmyria, New York area. Palmyria is a stone throw from Orleans.
Waterman appears on the 1820 census, in Farmington, Ontario County, New York . He died on Feb 13, 1828. There is no know burial site, or death certificate. There was a death announcement in the local paper, but it contained no details, as an Obituary would.
Mary, his wife, disappears after his death. She appears on no census records. Nor do I find any death records or marriage records for her. Two of her children, Watterman Jr. and Hiram reappear in Howard, Steuben County, in the 1840 census. The whereabouts of the rest of the children are unknown. I have made contact with Peter T. King, who is a descendant of Waterman Jr., and have information on those descendants.
I have been compling a file of the descendants of Hiram Dorman Howland, with much help from my Aunt Mattie Lounsberry and from Margaret Wood. With out their brains, I couldn't be this far. So I appreciate their help. I would also appreciate any help that any one could provide, with respect to finding Waterman's life. His birth place in unknown. (Although, Hiram's death certificate listed Vermont as Waterman's birth place) His exact date of birth is also unknown. He was 43 years old at the time of his death. So that would put his birth year at abt 1785. I would be very interested to find out where he came from. And continue to move backwards in this family history.
