Notes for M
OSES MCCURLEY:
Not proven that he is the father of Abraham McCurley. The following info was given to me my another
researcher and they have not provided proof and I have not found proof as of 4-22-01. I had a Patrick McCurley as the father of Abraham but that wasn't proven either. Just use it as a place to start looking.

Moses McCurley – Generation 2
On April 28, 1768 Moses McCarley received a 200-acre land grant along Camp Creek in
Berkley County, South Carolina. In December 1772, Moses sold half of his grand to John
Deveny for the sum of 5 pounds. The transfer was witnessed by David Huddleston. Moses
appears to have re-invested his 5 pounds, for in February 1773 he obained title to 250 acres
along Jimmy's Creek.

Moses was a veteran of the Revolutionary War, and served in Captain Pickens Company of
the South Carolina Militia from 1779 to 1783. Moses's militia company was probably the
company commanded by Captain Joseph Pickens brother of the famous partisan leader
Brigadier General Andrew Pickens. Captain Joseph Pickens was killed during the attack on the British star fort at Ninety Six in June 1781. It may be that Moses McCarley took part in that campaign.

Moses made his will in Jun 1785. In the will gave have his age as 77 years. He was dead by June
1787 when his will was proved. The will gives his wife's name as Ruth. She was still lving in
1790 Moses McCarley was born about 1708 and landed at New Castle, Delaware in 1729
from Northern Ireland. He married a women named Ruthe and ended up in Spartanburg
County, South Carolina

According to the "Roster of SC Patriots in the American Revolution" Moses served in the militia from 1779-83 under Capt. Pickens.
