| Welcome to my Family Tree Page! On my father's side, I am researching the Howe & Groom families from England. My great grandfather was George Wilson Howe, born on March 13, 1863 in Holloway (Islington District), England to William Coombs Howe and Emily Wilson. His father was a tailor. The 1881 census of England shows him as 18 years of age living with his widowed mother, Emily Howe, and brothers Frederick, Charles and Walter. They were living in Bromley, England. The English Birth Indexes show that all his siblings had the same middle name of "Wilson" and were born in Islington District. George immigrated to Canada in 1881, and settled in the Kearney/Sand Lake area of Ontario. There he married Blanche Amanda Wilkins (1876-1897), and then Mary Ann Wilkins (1881-1943). He and Mary Ann had three children: Amy R. Howe (1897-1964), William James Howe (1899-1967), and Lucy Martha Howe (1902-?). George died in Sand Lake, Ontario on October 26, 1901. William James Howe was my grandfather. In December 1934 he married Lena Rose Groom of Kearney, Ontario. They lived in Kearney where he was a cook in local lumber camps, and later worked for the C.N.R. as a cook for bridge and building crews. William and Lena had two children: Robert George Leighton Howe (1935-1994), and Donald William Howe (1936-2000). Donald was my father. Lena Rose Groom was the daughter of Leighton Groom (1872-1943) and Mary Jane Pelling (1877-1947). Her grandparents on Leighton's side were Henry Groom (1846-1907) and Tryphemia Darlington (1852-1910), both from Shropshire, England. On my mother's side, I am researching the Hore & Collins families from Canada. My great grandfather was John Hore, born sometime before 1885 in Ontario, Canada. He married Ester Campbell and they had seven children: Leonard, Myrtle, Roy, Violet, William, Robert Russell, and Earnest. John died on October 8, 1962. Robert Russell Hore (1899-1956)was my grandfather. He was born in Honora Bay on the Manitoulin Island in Ontario. In 1936, he married Alice Isobelle Collins, the daughter of David Issac Collins (1884-1946) and Amanda Burnett (1889-1965). Alice was born on September 1, 1916 in Sheguiandah on the Manitoulin Island in Ontario where she still lives today. She and Robert Russell had three children: Myrtle Maxine Violet, Eleanor Marie, and Ronald John. Eleanor Marie is my mother. |
