Notes for A
LEXANDER IRVINE:
Alexander is listed as a farmer in the 1831 census from Bonaventure, Quebec. Both their daughter Jane (1834) and son Donald (1841) were born in Flatlands, N.B. They eventually settled in Matapedia, Quebec where Jane Cheyne's brother William visited periodically. Jane's brother came to Canada in approximately 1822.
Thelma Pratt Downs wrote that " My great grandfather Alexander Irvine died prior to 1871, he was laid to rest on his farm on the hills overlooking the Restigouche River; across from the hills of New Brunswick which reminded him of his never forgotten homeland. A few years after his death my great grandmother Jane Cheyne Irvine passed away and was laid to rest beside him in their private buriel plot. Their graves can easily be seen from the highway a few miles east of Matapedia. In religion they were staunch members of the Church of Scotland."
In the 1861 CENSUS the spelling of IRVINE was IRVIN
