| Lineage/Descendants from Thomas Cornwell, Lord of Fairstead at Terling, Essex, England. His title was Granted in 1550 by KING EDWARD VI. Our Immigrant Ancestor, William Cornwell, was a simple farmer who came to Roxbury (Boston) with Winthrop in 1633 and was one of the Founders of Hartford, CT, in 1636. He fought during the Pequot Indian War and served under Major Mason during the attack on the Indians in their Fort at Mystic in May 1637. He was one of the Founders of Middletown, CT, in 1650. Williams' Descendant, Isaac Cornwell, served as a Private during the Revolutionary War as one of General Washingtons'Mounted Escort Lifeguards in Captain Buttlers' Company of Major Sheldons' Connecticut Light Horse Regiment. On the Howe Side, our Immigrant Ancestor, Abraham Howe, was first recorded in Marlborough, MA in 1657. He served as a Private in the Massachusetts Militia during King Phillips' War. Abrahams' Descendant Zadok Howe, was one of the Minute Men at Lexington and served as a 1st Lieut on General Washingtons' Saff during the Revolutionary War. Gale Thomas Howe-Cornwell enlisted in the US Army Airborne during WWII as a Private at the age of 16. He married Marion Elizabeth MacDowall, a Private in the British Army ATS at Portsmouth, England, 3 days before D-Day in June 1944. He rose thru the ranks being Commissioned a 2nd Lieut. in France in 1945. He served during the Korean Conflict as a Helicopter Pilot and is 100% Service Connected Disabled Veteran residing in Indio, CA. His sons, Glenn, Gene and Gale Jr., served during the Viet Nam war - Glenn and Gene survived the war - Gale Jr. was buried in the Riverside National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Gales' Mother, Mabel Emily Howe-Cornwell, served during WWII as an Army Nurse and landed on Omaha Beach with Pattons 3rd Army on D+7/ Gale Thomas Howe-Cornwell is a Lifetime Member of: Order of theHonorable Artillery Company; Sons of the Revolution in New York State (Fraunces Tavern); Society of Middletown First Settlers Descendants 1650-1654; National Rifle Association and Disabled American Veterans. He is also a Member of: The Order of the Founders and Patriots of America; The General Society of Colonial Wars; Sons American Revolution |
