LEMIEUX FAMILY HISTORY

The Lemieux came to the United States when Felix Lemieux, his wife Marie Boucher Lemieux, and their three children moved to Berlin, New Hampshire in 1896. In Berlin, several more children were born, including our ancestor, Edward Joseph Lemieux, who was born January 7, 1901. Felix Lemieux and Marie Boucher were married in Danville, Quebec in 1888. The family moved several times between 1901 and 1914. They lived in the towns of Franklin, NH and Lowell, MA as well as Laconia, NH. On April 26, 1914, Marie died as a result of a miscarriage. The family was living in Franklin at this time.

On October 18, 1914, Felix married Maria Loiselle. She was born in Quebec and was living in New Bedford, MA. Felix brought some of his family to Jefferson, MA and settled there until his death. I have been unable to find a record of his death and do not know exactly when he died, probably the late twenties or early thirties.

Felix and his children are decendants of Gabriel Lemieux and his wife Marguerite Leboeuf who emmigrated from Nouvelle, France, to Montral, Quebec in 1666. Most of the people with the last name of Lemieux in Canada and much of the United States are decendants of Gabriel and Marguerite.

Gabriel was a merchant and after a year or so in his new country, Gabriel gathered together goods to bring back to France and sell for profit. He left his wife and two young children in Canada while he was gone. During this time the relations between France and England was not very good and Gabriel was captured by the English trying to get to France. All of his goods were captured and he was held as a prisoner. Eventually he was freed and had to borrow money to return to his family in Canada.

During Gabriel's absence, Marguerite was forced to fend for herself and her children. She also was threatened with imprisonment when she was accused of running a bordello and owing taxes. She made a deal with local authorities and was able to avoid going to prison.

After Gabriel's return, the couple produced several more children and became well known in Quebec.

MORIN FAMILY HISTORY

Paul Edward Morin came to this country with his father Joseph and his mother Marguerite in 1870 when he was ten years old. The family came from St. Joseph, Quebec and settled in Laconia, NH. On June 22, 1879, Paul Morin married Zelia Goyette. During their short marriage, Paul and Zelia produced four children. Zelia died October 28, 1885 in Laconia, leaving behind her husband and children, including our ancestor Edward Paul Theodore Morin who was 4 years old.

Paul Morin married Alice Sanchagrin on September 16, 1895. They had five more children, three boys and two girls. Paul Morin was a butcher and owned his own shop in Laconia at the turn of the century.

Paul Morin's oldest son Edward married on August 5, 1899, Marie Ann Chabot, daughter of Charles Chabot and his second wife Odelia Lacasse. Both were 18 years of age when they married. Marie Morin as known as Odile, probably after her mother. She was born in St. Lazare, Quebec on January 26, 1881, and came to this country with her parents in 1887.

Edward and Odile's first child was born September 27, 1900 and baptized two days later as Odile Yvonne Mildreth Morin in Sacred Heart Church. During the next several years, Edward and Odile had many more children and the family eventually moved to Jefferson, MA and settled there, however many relatives were left behind in Laconia.

EDWARD JOSEPH LEMIEUX AND MILDRED YVONNE MORIN

Edward Joseph Lemieux and Mildred Yvonne Morin were married about 1920. I do not know where, as the states of New Hampshire and Massachusetts do not have a record of this marriage, nor does the town of Laconia or any of the Catholic churches in that town. It is my understanding that Edward a
