Almost all of the Howells in Marion County are descended from James (David?) Howell who was born in NC in 1765.

James Howell, my ggg grandfather apparently moved his family sometime after 1820 from possibly Wayne Co., NC to first Rutherford Co., TN and then to Marion Co., AL. He first shows up on the 1830 census in that county with his wife and two young children. His oldest son Stephen's family and also some other Howells and Burlesons and Popes with whom the Howells were intermarried are on that census.

Evidence shows James was still in NC in 1820 and Stephen and his brothers John and Benjamin W. were in Tennessee until after 1828. Therefore they first entered Marion Co., AL about 1829.

I am principally interested in finding out if James was from Wayne Co., NC and also which family he is descended from. In addition I am not sure that James was definitely married to Susanna Swain. There is probably a connection with the Wright's of NC because of James' youngest sons name: "Burrell Wright" Howell.

I have information on all the descendants of James except Benjamin W., born 1809 in NC. He married Mary Pope May 2, 1829 in Rutherford Co., TN.
