| George Steele, also spelled Staley, Stahl, and possibly Stacey mirgrated to the U.S. from Bavaria Germany in @1747. He purchased the Staley Patent from King George and settled on the banks of the Mohawk River, in Upstate New York. The town he founded eventually became Ilion, New York. George or a son, was Quartermaster for Gen. Herkimer at the Battle of Oriskany.I am searching for the connections between this George Steele and my grandfather.I am also interested in obtaining any information about Aaron Anson Newton of Upstate NY, The Johnson family in Albany GA, the Howie family of Clark, NJ and a DAR contact for the William Seaman information, probably in the Herkimer County, NY Chapter. I will share any information I have. Ultimately, I'll be complimenting the website with restored photos of family members. |
