Much research has been done on my mother's side of the family (Brown), but virtually nothing has been attempted on my father's side (Howe). That changed, with my doing, on Christmas Eve, 1999.

I've already uncovered many sources on the Web and, quite possibly, ancestral lines dating back to pre-medieval times in northern Scotland.

But the challenge at-hand is to research my father's upbringing and ancestors, no matter the fact that his biological father died when he was 4 or 5 and his mother thought of my father's existence (i.e. birth) as a 'sinful & dirty accident'.

Strange as it may seem, but I feel it's going to be much harder to research the recent Howe Family history than more ancient times. That probability won't deter me on my quest, though.

I'll be adding to this journal from time to time.
