1. JAMES¹ HOWELL was born 1744 in Virginia, and died 1844 in Macon County, Missouri. He married MARTHA DENNY. She was born 1758 in Virginia, and died 1836 in Barren County, Kentucky.

Notes for JAMES HOWELL:
Little is known of the elusive James Howell and what is known has been gathered from bits and pieces of information from four states. James Howell is supposed to have served in the Revolutionary War and several Daughters of the Revolution forms state that in 1778 he was a private in Captain Thomas Will's Company, 15th Virginia Regiment of foot, commanded by Major Gusstove B. Wallace. He was born in Virginia but the exact date is unknown at this time. We do not know who his parents were at this time nor do we know anything about his brothers or sisters if he had any. We know he married Martha Denny. We know they had at least 7 children. We know more about the children than we do their parents.
James Howell and Martha Denny moved from Virginia into Barren County Kentucky sometime after their first child John was born in 1792. In Barren County Deed Book "A", page 490, James is listed on land "on Ben's Creek". Date: August 17, 1807.
James is listed in the 1810, 1820, 1830, and 1840 census of Barren County. He probably moved into Illinois with part of his family after his wife died in 1836, and after the 1840 census was taken. He probably moved on into Missouri from Illinois in 1841 or 1842, where he died.
It appears that his youngest son James Pinson Howell and his family moved into Missouri with James and that after his death in 1844 moved on into Texas (about 1861)
