2. JOHN2 HOWELL (JAMES1) was born October 23, 1792 in Virginia, and died October 07, 1839 in Union County, Illinois. He married CHARLOTTA COOK February 15, 1814 in Barren County, Kentucky, daughter of HENRY COOK and ELIZABETH FORBIS. She was born September 02, 1798 in Barren County, Kentucky, and died April 22, 1867 in Ganntown, Illinois, Johnson County.

John and Charlotte lived in Kentucky until the late 1830's. Sometime after the death of John's Mother, Martha he loaded his wife and 10 children into wagons and left Barren County, Kentucky. He was headed towards Macon County Missouri to settle with his elderly Father James and his sister, Nancy Cook. While passing through Union County in the fall of 1839, John died. The date of his death was 7 September 1839. According to Union County Illinois Probabe Records the Administratrix was Charlotte (X) representing her signature. A $1,000.00 bond dated 5 November 1839, with James T. Howell and David Arundell as securities. Appraisal: $571.13 by Robert Hargrave, Isaac Tinsley and Jacob Trees. Debts: Dr. B. W. Brooks for "medicine and visits for self and family, including two doses medicine for Henry (age 21)" from 11 June to 22 September 1839, mileage six miles.
N.K. Tripp was paid $3.00 by James S. Powell "for three pear of shoes that his father bought of me." Henry Cruse was paid $1.00 by Joel Howell "of a ded of his farther oad in the year "39". Sale: $349.75, 27 November 1839; C.C. Gatewood, crier; M. Collins, clerk. Purchasers at sale: James Howell, Charlotte Howell, Henry Howell, John C. Shore and David Arnold. The estate was in Debt $9.39. Later, a memorandum of articles was held and Charlotte received on bed and bedding worth about $1.50, 1 milk cow and calf, $14.00; 1 saddle and bridle, $5.00; 1 bay mare, $30.00; 1 cow balance due on horse, $1l.00; household and kitchen furniture, $54.50; Total: $122.00. Charlotte and her ten children stayed in Union County until May of 1841 when she and her older children obtained 40 acre land grants near Gannton in Johnson County, Illinois. Her husband John's grave is in Union County, but exactly where is unknown.
