Notes for E
ZRA NORTON RICE:
Ezra Norton Rice began his working life on his fathers farm near Marion, Illinois. He later started a black smith business three blocks North of the Marion City square. At the age of 36 he entered local politics and was elected city alderman for the years 1897, 1901 and 1902. He was elected Coroner for Williamson County in 1903 and 1904. Aside from his own business, he invested in several other local businesses, one being the Marion Processed Brick Company of which he was a stockholder. He and his wife Mary Ann had a fine home on a large city lot in Marion and were respected members of the community. It was due in large part to the loving care and attention that they gave to the children of their daughter Jessie that those children, Geneva Vinson, Helen Marie Vinson and Jackson Vinson received their moral and ethical concepts as well as their education. Helen Marie and Geneva learned to play the piano and organ at their home and to read music. He and his wife were members of the First Baptist Church of Marion and his children and grandchildren were raised in that faith.
