1. JOEL VARDMAN³ HOWELL (JOHN², JAMES¹) was born December 05, 1819 in Barren County, Kentucky, and died 1854 in Ganntown, Illinois, Johnson County. He married JANE ADALINE RENTFRO March 14, 1843 in Johnson County, Illinois, daughter of STEPHEN RENTFRO and ELIZABETH HICKS. She was born July 20, 1828 in Tennessee, and died January 14, 1887 in Blairsville, Illinois.

Notes for JANE ADALINE RENTFRO:
Jane Adaline Rentfro would remarry six years after her husband Joel Vardman Howell died in 1854. She and her three children, William Marion, Lorenzo Dow and America Howell would leave Johnson County around 1864 with her new husband, George W. Leach and their one child, Martha Leach. Her sister Sarah S. Rentfro and her husband James Toliver Howell and their one son Stephen C. Howell would make the journey with them North approximately 40 miles to a small village located on the Big Muddy River in Williamson County called Blairsville.
She would spend the remainder of her life in Blairsville and did not remarry after her husband George W. Leach died in 1866. She helped with the funeral of her sister Sarah S. Howell when she died in 1882.
Her son's and daughters were raised around Blairsville and bought property there. When she died in 1887 at the age of 58 she was buried next to her husband and not too far from her sisters grave on James T. Howell's farm. Most of her children are buried nearby.
