I am researching the families of Patrick Irwin Howley,County Sligo, Ireland (Born in Elimoran, County Mayo). Also I have included some uncles, and cousins, many times removed, to enhance my database knowledge of the Howleys of Ireland. Howley and/or Howly go back many centuries.Indeed, there is some protocol that suggests that the name was derived from"O'Huallaigh", dating back to before the 16th century. However, considering, inter-alia, the Cromwellian rape of Ireland, I doubt if I would live long enough to trace any of the Howleys prior to the 18th Century - so the 18th Century forward is the focus of my research. Some of the names which have arisen in my research, in connection with the Irish Howleys, are (but not limited to): Barret, Boland, Bourke, Brady, Brennan, Brennin, Cavanagh, Conry, Conway, Culkin, Deirt, Delaney, Donley, Ennis, Foody, Griffin, Harte, Herbert, Howley, Howly, Irwin, Jones, Kelly, KilCawley, Kilcullen, Knox, Leeson, Lyons, McAndrew, McCormack, McDermott, Melvin, O'Donnell, Rice, Sweeney and Toolan. The Howley families of Ireland were active in Counties Mayo, and Sligo. My Howley families of the United States were active in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
