| I am researching the Gortney family from North Carolina.The Gortney family includes such surmanes as Garland,Renfro, Stanley, Letterman, Hughes, Riddle, Forbes, Shumaker and Cook.I am particularly interested in information prior to about 1780. There is a possiblity that the name has been changed from Gwaltney, Gwartney, Gualtney or other spelling variations.. The earliest known Gortney is William Sloan Gortney whose wife was Hilda Shumaker. I would be interested in any information that anyone might have. |
