In 1850 when she was first listed on the census with her parents, she was listed as 17 years old, with Eliza 13 and George 12.) along with her unmarried daughter, Catharine Evans (b. May 1860, no occup.) and her nephew E.(dwin) Evans Graham (b.July 1876, Dentist, Single) and Anna E. White, Mary Jane's niece by her sister Eliza (Lawrence) Clark (Anna White was born Jan. 1868 in New Jersey, the same as her father. She is a Music teacher and single) and Mary Mackle (b.Nov. 1872 in Ireland, Nurse, Single. Possibly a nurse for Mary Jane)
The 1900 Phila. Directory lists as follows: "Evans, Mary J., wid Thos. R., h 1722 Wylie" This is the same address as listed for her brother Albert L. Lawrence in his obituary in the March 18, 1897 Phila. Public Ledger which indicates it is "his sister's residence, 1722 Wylie." Leaving no doubt that Thomas R. Evans' wife was Mary Jane Lawrence, daughter of Michael & Catharine Lawrence.
1900 Census: District 266 Philadelphia City Pa., Fifteenth Ward; 12th Division. Bounded by Ridge Avenue, Ogden, 16th, Brown, Francis, Perkiomen, Wylie. In 1897 William H. Hoskins, painter, who was Mary Jane's nephew by her sister Anna Maria, lived with Mary Jane at 1722 Wylie, per Phila. Directory.
The 1873 Phila. Directory lists: "Evans, Thomas R., shoes, 28 S 4th, h Mantua (NJ)" The 1874 P.D. lists another as well, as: "Evans, Thomas R., plumber, h 521 N 10th" (This is Mary Jane's Thomas since it's only one block north of Michael Lawrence's former residence.)
Mary Jane's sister Emma's funeral was held at Mary Jane's home 3304 Wallace on December 23rd, 1909 per Emma's obituary in the Dec. 22nd Phila. Inquirer.
