The following information was sent to Roy L. Cook from James Sinclair Denton (<foresite@rof.net>)

The will of John Cook was proved Feb 1777, in Chatham Co., NC, available from the NC Archives. Two of his orphan children, Milly and Abraham, chose Peter Sinclair, a neighbor and husband of Mary Cook, to be their guardian, 11 May 1778 in the County Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions in Chatham Co. Peter Sinclair, as one of the executors of the estate, returned an account of sales of the estate to the court 10 Aug 1778.

In these and other documents, including deeds, the names Henry Cook and Abraham Cook also appear. Their lands were adjacent to Dry Creek, in Chatham Co., a tributary of the Haw River.

I John Cook of Chatham County in Provence of North Carolina
Being in Perfect mind and Desposing memory Do make and ordain this my Last will and testament in manner and form following That is to Say I give and Bequath unto my Son James Cook one Shilling Sterling I give to my Son Thomas Cook one Shilling Sterling I give to my Son ________ Cook one Shilling Sterling I give to my Son John Cook one Shilling Sterling I give to my Son Ephraim Cook one Shilling Sterling I give
to my Daughter Elizabeth one Shilling Sterling I give to my Daughter Mary one Shilling Sterling I give to my Daughter Jeane one Shilling Sterling I give to my Daughter Emma one Shilling Sterling I give to my Daughter Ede one Shilling Sterling I give and Bequath unto my Son Henry Cook fore hundred and fifteen acres of Land Lying in Northampton County Joining of Lewis Williamsons land be the Same more or Less I give and Bequath unto my son Abraham Cook the Land and Plantation where on I now Live it Being two hundred and forty acres more or less also one Still also one negreo Boy named ovillis (?) also one negreo girl named Ede and If the Sd Abraham Cook Dyes without heir his Estate is to fall to his Brother Henry Cook
I give and Bequath unto my Daughter Millea Cook one negro girl named Judy I give Bequath and Leave all any Stock of horses Cattle hoggs and Sheep and tools and house hold furniture Such as Beds pewter Pots and all other necesaries to be Equally Devided Between my Daughter Christain Stroud and my Daughter Joanner and my Daughter Millea and my Son Abraham Cook. I Likewise Constitute make and ordain my Son Henry Cook and Peter Sinckler my only and Sole Executors of this my Last will and testament and Do hereby utterly Revoak and Disannull All and Every other former wills and testaments and Legacies Requests By me in any way Before this time Named willed and Bequathed Ratifying and Conferming this and no other to Be my Last will and testament in witness whereof I have set my hand and Seal the Day and year above written
