Find Family

Recorded history indicates that Rudolph Huffman and his wife Rebecca Weiss (Weisz)(Wise) came to Colchester Township, Essex County, Ontario, Canada in the early 1790s from Pennsylvania or what is now West Virginia. We are trying to establish written evidence that connects Rudolph and Rebecca to a Huffman family and to a Weiss (Weisz) (Wise) family in the U.S.A. We do have information that connects, by series of associations and assumptions, Rudolph Huffman of Colchester to a Rudolph Huffman (Hoffman) and his wife Dorothea (Dorathy) Weiss (Weisz)of Washington County, Pennsylvania. They were married in Frederick, Maryland May 8, 1758. Rudolph of Pennsylvania died February 22,1794 and his wife Dorothea died June 18, 1813.

We are also trying to trace the families belonging to spouses of some of the descendants of Rudolph and Rebecca Huffman of Cochester. Some of these families are: Mortimore of Pennsylvania, Squier (Squire) of Connecticut, Benn probably of Ireland and Egglesfield of England (probably the London area).

Our branch of the Huffman family of Colchester is also descendent from a Brush family that settled in Long Island in the 1650s and came to Canada from Connecticut in 1806. The Squier (Squire) family mentioned above is one branch of that family. For the most part, however, the Brush family is well- recorded from the 1650s. The Cornwall family that came to Canada from Connecticut during the American Revolution is also part of our family tree. It seems to be well-recorded as well. There are some more branches in these Brush and Cornwall families that we would like to trace someday but the priority work is described in the preceding paragraphs.

We would appreciate your help and will share our information.
