Descendants of Jesse Sprouse

16. CAROLINE M. (CARRIE)7 GORE (MARY6 SPROUSE, JESSE5, WILLIAM4, VINCENT3, ALEXANDER2, JOHN1) was born April 15, 1870 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and died January 17, 1928 in Gaffney, Cherokee County, South Carolina.

AROLINE M. (CARRIE) GORE:
1900 census, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, Pacolet

Gore Carrie (Caroline M.) head April 1870 SC
Gore Jamie (Martha Janie) sister October 1875, SC
Gore Cora sister March 1881 SC
Fowler Arsa sister September 1878 SC (Don't know who this is)
Fowler John b-l June 1878 SC (This is possibly Cora's first husband)

On the 1900 census Carrie is the head of household with her sisters Martha Janie and Cora living with her along with John and Arsa Fowler. This census is a puzzle and a mystery. First, who is Arsa Fowler? The census states she is a sister to Carrie but she doesn't appear on the 1880 census with John Gore and Mary Sprouse Gore or the 1900 census with Mary. Looking strictly at the census John Fowler (Carrie's brother-in-law) is married to Arsa (Gore?) Fowler, Carrie's sister and they are living with Carrie as is Cora Gore also Carrie's sister. Now the mystery deepens. Cora Gore's first husband's name is John Fowler. (This is proven from Cora's obituary). At the time of this census (1900) Cora is still single. So this question, did something happen to Arsa and, if so, is this the John Fowler that Cora married? Why are John and Arsa living with Carrie? The most obvious answer is that they are good friends of Carrie and Cora which lends further credence to the possibility that this is the John Fowler that Cora later married.

After consulting with Coris Clines via e-mail we believe the Arsa mentioned above is most likely Arphea Gore who is Carrie's sister.

On the 1910 Union County, South Carolina census, Caroline M. "Carrie" Gore and her son, William Grover "Sug" Gore, are living in the household of Nannie Gore, widow of J. Alfred Gore, "Carrie's" brother.
