I am attempting to verify whether JOHN ADAM LAGRONE, JR., (who was born in 1781, and came to Texas about 1835 and settled near Deadwood in Panola County) and JACOB LAGRONE, SR. (who was born in 1785, and came to Texas about 1837 and settled in Harrison County) were brothers, sons of Tobias LaGrone's son JOHN ADAM LAGRONE, and request reference to any records or documents useful in making that verification. Reports that I have seen about Tobias LeCrown's children list four sons, John Adam (sometimes shown as William Adam or John William Adam, John Jacob, Frederick, and John. The Carolina Herald and Newsletter March - June 1997, page 79, lists eleven children of John Adam LaGrone and Mary Magdalene Houseal: Adam LaGrone, Jr., born 1781, married Christina C. Dominic Richard. They settled in Panola County, Texas. Leany, born 1783, married Charles Dickard (Dickert) Jacob, born 1785, married Catherine Riser. They settled in Harrison County, Texas. Emmanuel, born 1787 Catherine, born 1789, married John Rhinehart John, born 1790, married Catherine Rhinehart Mary Elizabeth, born 1792, did not marry. Other sources indicate that she and Emmanuel were twins, born in 1787. George Michael, born 1794. Records maintained by the family of John George LaGrone, born in 1792, persuade me that he was a child of John Adam LaGrone and Mary Magdalene Houseal and that the compiler erroneously listed him as "George Michael." David, born 1797, married Mary Lightsey Henry, born 1798 Washington, born 1800
Two researchers recently told me that they do not believe that the Jacob who married Catherine Riser was a son of John Adam LaGrone and Mary Magdalena Houseal. They believe that he was a son of Tobias's son named John Jacob LaGrone. Any information shedding light on this last issue would be greatly appreciated.
DANIEL REEL, his wife Barbary, and eight children immigrated to Texas about 1833, when it was part of the Mexican State of Coahuila-Texas. The area in which they settled is located in present-day Rusk County, Texas. In 1835, Daniel Reel declared that he was a native of Holland, but no record of his passage on any ship or of his arival in America has been found. He died in Harrison County, Texas in 1842. His widow, Barbary, may have married a “Bruer” or “Brewer” by 1847.
I am seeking information as to Daniel Reel's Origin (Ancestors) and his or their arrival in America and descendants of his son James Reel, and descendants of two who may have been his daughters, Sarah Ann Love Daken, who married Ebenezer Daken in Harrison County, Texas, and Unity (Eunity) who married Redden (Redin, Reden) Mason and lived in Harrison County, Texas in the 1840s- 1860s. The names of five of Daniel’s children are known. They were: Henry, born about 1805. In 1835, he declared that hecame from Holland. He died in 1840 in Harrison County, Texas, apparently unmarried. James, born about 1813. In 1835, he declared that he was from America. He married Mary (Polly) Martin, whose parents lived near Tatum, Texas. One report indicates that they divorced and that he (and possibly she) remarried. James had the following known children: Daniel, born about 1838, James, born about 1840, William Preston, born in 1845, died in 1924, Rachel, born about 1842, and Milton Lafayette, born about 1851, died in 1937 Alfred, born about 1817. He married Purmelia Norris in 1842, and died in 1849, in Rusk County, Texas. Purmelia died in Rusk County in 1852. Nancy L., born about 1818. She married Hezekia George in 1840, and later married Jesse Gazaway. Elizabeth married Merriweather H. Ussery and later maried William Inch.
