| I am looking for my great-great-grandparent's families. My GGGrandmother's name was Ailcy Narcissa SEARCY. She was born in 1825 in North Carolina, according to the 1860 and 1870 Georgia census. She married Oliver Nathaniel HARRIS (was listed as HARRISON in the records) on December 31, 1846 in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia. My GGGrandfather, Oliver Nathaniel HARRIS, was born in 1825 in South Carolina, according to the 1860 Milton County, Georgia census. I can find no listing for either of these people in the 1850 Georgia census. They are both listed in Milton County, Georgia in 1860, along with their four children, as Oliver N. HARRIS and Narcissa HARRIS. She is listed on the 1870 Gilmer County census as Ailcy Harris, along with the four children. Oliver reportedly died in 1866-67 following the War. He was in the 11th Georgia, Company F, from Gilmer County, Georgia. He was supposedly captured at Gettysburg and imprisoned at Point Lookout, Maryland until April, 1865 but I cannot find his name in a list of prisoners from that facility. I have discovered a lot of SEARCY's in my search for my GGGrandmother's family, most of whom were from Rutherford County, North Carolina and Gilmer County, Georgia. I have a feeling that some of these people that I have discovered in other family's trees are probably brothers or sisters of Ailcy's daddy. I have also come across a good many PARKS from Gilmer County and Walker County, Georgia. The last listing I have of my GGGrandmother is on the 1880 Gilmer County, Georgia census. She is listed as A.N. Harris, ML (I assume this is mother-in-law), living with her youngest daughter (Catrina)Ellen Harris PARKS, and her husband, Martin R. PARKS. I have not had very good luck with the HARRIS (my maiden name)side of the family. I'm not really sure what area of South Carolina my GGGrandfather was born in. They only had one male child, George Washington HARRIS and I haven't located anything on him or the three girls, Lavinia HARRIS, Harriet HARRIS, or Catrina Ellen HARRIS. Any help with the above will be appreciated and I will share the information I have collected along the way. |
