Lt.Colonel John Blake of the British Army (1761-1800's) had a son John who was supposed to follow his father into the Army. He preferred the Royal Navy so he changed his name to Hughes and went to sea at around age 14. He ended up on the Windward Islands and had at least one son, John James Augustus Hughes(b.1803).
J.J.A.Hughes held several official titles, ending up as Acting Govenor of St. Vincent. He married 3 times and had 10 children. One son was William Edwin Hughes (b.1826) who was on the Legislative Consul of St. Vincent (1881).He also had a large family.
One son, Eugene Leslie Hughes (b.1861), left Barbados for America and married Amy Louise Sutton. They had one son, Leslie Austin Hughes (b.1890) who married Marjorie Adelaide Mills. They had 3 sons, one being Eugene Blake Hughes (b.1923 in Stamford, CT) E. Blake Hughes married Ruth Brown and they had 3 sons. I am the 3rd son.
I am looking for any and all information on this family but especilly would like info on John Hughes of the Royal Navy. He is the key to this research and I have very few facts concerning him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
