This Web page represents what is known about James Hughes, his wives, Nancy Willoughby and Margaret Satterfield and their descendants. While I am not certain of their origins family lore tells us that James was born at sea during his mother's trip from Ireland to Baltimore. She, Elizabeth Hughes, left Ireland alone in November of 1769 and disembarked at Baltimore in Feb 1770 with infant son, James. The story continues that James was indentured as an infant to the Willoughby family who raised him on their farm somewhere on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He married their daughter, Nancy, thus starting our family line. |
