"The Hughes' of Dunbar, Pa."Updated December 24, 2005 |
My current research involves tracing my ancestory back 6 generations. The earliest Hughes I can trace is "John Hughes" (1790's) of Somerset County, Pa. John Hughes had a son (William) with (I believe) Elizabeth Burkett of Shade, Twp. Somerset County, Pa. William goes to Dunbar, Pa. at a young age and marries Elizabeth Butler. William and Elizabeth have 6 sons who populate the "Tucker Run Valley" in the Dunbar area. These 6 sons, Joseph, John B., James, Jonah, William A. and George P. Hughes are the beginnings of the Hughes' of Dunbar, Pa. My father Robert C. Hughes has given me numerous pictures and information on the Hughes'. My research at present is trying to find information on John Hughes of Somerset County, Pa. and where he came from and what happened to him. Any info on him (John Hughes, Somerset Co. Pa.) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jim Hughes |
