This page is dedicated to my Dad, Jobe Hughes, who believed that family helped you define yourself and find your direction in life. Jobe Hughes was born on Nov. 23, 1919 at Dock,Floyd County, KY and married twice; first to Elva West of Pike County KY who died at the end of WWII and then to Eula Gibson of Pike County KY who survived him. Jobe had two children with Eula and none with Elva West. He was the youngest of 13 children of John Jackson Hughes and Lurana Frasure 12 of whom survived to adulthood. The children of John J. and Lurana Frasure Hughes were Nancy Hughes Pitts Hicks, Rebecca Hughes Reed, Millie Hughes Hicks, Bertha Hughes Hicks, Lizzie Hughes Ousley, Eve Hughes Meadors, Jemima Hughes, Melvin (Bud) Hughes, Adam Hughes, Marion Hughes, Cleo Jackson Hughes, Jobe Hughes (my dad), and Willie Hughes (who died in childhood). John J. Hughes was the son of Joseph Hughes and Nancy Shepherd with a large family of siblings including a brother named Emery who lived in Ohio, A brother named Daniel Boone Hughes, a brother named James (nicknamed Black Jim according to Aunt Mandy because of his temper), a sister called "Mandy" who married a Patton and lived in Floyd County her entire life and another named Sallie who married Hagar Stevens also of Floyd County KY. Joseph was the son of Tolliver Hughes who according to family rumor was married and widowed 3 times. Hughes, Frasure, Prater, Ratliff, Blackburn, Ousley, Howard, Hicks, Shepherd, Stevens, Gibson, Goff, Staton, and Houchins are a few of the surnames in our family and the areas of search have covered KY, VA, WV, TN, and OK so far.I would be grateful for any information and am willing to share the information I currently have.
