OBITUARY
      H. J. Hicks was born Feb. 20th, 1855, in the state of Arkansas, and died at his home near Eudora, Mo., April 16, 1930.
He with his parents moved to Greene County, Mo., when but a lad. His boyhood days were spent in the Rose Hill Community nor far from Willard. It was here when but a fourteen year old boy, he trusted the Savior, who was the source of his joy and satisfaction all through life.
When a young man he was married to Miss Susan Atchley. To themf were born nine children - six daughters: Nettie, who died several years ago; Mrs. Lora King of Redlands, Calif.; Mrs. Stella Crane and Alta Hicks of Springfield; Miss Blance Hicks of Enid, Okla., Miss Hester Hicks of Fredonia, Kansas; three sons: James, who died ten years ago; Fletcher of Sacramento, Calif; and Blaine of Walnut Grove.
He moved to Polk County 26 years ago and principally reared his family near Eudora, Mo. he was successful as a farner and stockman and had one of the nicest homes of the community, and like Barnabas of old, "He was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit."
He was taken sick ten months ago and was proctically bedfast until death. Everthing was done that a faithful companion and willing children could do, but to no avail. He wanted to get well but was willing to submit to the Master's call.
He was the highest type of a Christian gentleman, a deacon in Baptist churches for thirty years, and was a member of Sharon Church at the time of his death. We feel like the eyes of our church are gone. he leaves to us the memory of a man whose purpose was to serve God and point men to the "Lamb of God that thaketh away the sin of the world".
Funeral services were held at Rose Hill conducted by A. M. Wynkoop, J. F. Leith, and J. F. Sherman, in the fpresence of a large congregation of friends and relatives. Several communities were represented in large numbers.
He was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Brim Undertaking Company of Walnut Grove, to await the Resurrection.
