Will dated Jan 12, 1769 and probated March 5, 1770, Amherst Co,Va. It listed his wife as Susnna and gave one shilling to eightpersons - apparently his children - including one namedAlice Wright. "In the Name of God - Amen. The twelfth Day of January in theYear of our Lord MDCCLXIX, I, Valentine Ball of Amherst,Planter, being very sick and weak in Body but of perfect mindand memory, thanks be given unto God for the same, & Calling tomind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointedfor all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last Willand Testament. That is to say, Principally & first of all IGive and Recommend my Soul unto the hands of God that gave itand for my Body I Recommend it to the Earth to be Buried in aChristian like & Decent manner at the discreation of myExecutors, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection Ishall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and asTouching such worldy Estate wherewith it hath pleased God tobless me in this life, I Give, Devise & Dispose of the Same inmanner & form following, that is to Say In the first place after my Debts are paid I lend all & Singularmy whole Estate to Susanna Ball my well beloved wife during hernatural life.
