James Hunter left South Carolina about 1820 at about 16 years of age. He went to Van Buren County, Tennessee to seek his fortune in life. His father had died and his Mother remarried. He never returned to South Carolina. I have found 1200 descendants thus far. I'm still looking for his parents and siblings. He married Eleanor Larrence. They had two sons, Martin Van Buren Hunter and James K. Polk Hunter, and six daughters, Jane, Frances Ann, Elizabeth, Elvira, Permelia and Mary Nancy. These girls married Charles Neal, Bryant Seamons, Andrew Jackson Sparkman, Filander Davidson Miller, Timple Black Sparkman and Richard Rowland and they all had offspring. One of Elizabeth and A.J.'s grandaughters married a Johnson and somewhere down the line one of the Johnson's had thirteen offspring and one of those had fourteen more Johnsons. One of James K. Polk Hunter's sons married Maranda Jane Hillis whose father was Isaiah whose father was Isaac whose father was James whose father was John Hiles/Hillis, a Revolutionary War participant. Look for a Hillis report soon.

Would like to hear from you if you think we might be cousins.
