2. MATHEW2 DUNKIN (PETER1) was born 1796 in Edgefield, South Carolina-County of Edgefield, and died Abt. 1881 in Texas. He married (1) HANNAH Bef. 1820. She was born 1793 in South Carolina, and died 1879 in Texas-County of Lee. He married (2) FRANCES JANE SMITH December 20, 1870 in Georgia-County of Coweta. She was born Abt. 1841 in Georgia, and died Aft. 1900 in Texas.

Notes for MATHEW DUNKIN:
Mathew was a potter by profession and he had his training in Edgefeild, County South Carolina. He moved to Georgia and then to Alabama. That is where his daughter met and married James W. Allen. Mathew trained his son-in-law in the art of making Pottery, also his son George W. Dunkin. He moved with his son George and his family to Texas in the 1850's. He divorced his wife Hannah before he moved to Texas. Mathew opened a pottery shop in Mcdade, Texas and also one where the Bastrop city park is now. His shop in Mcdade was sold to a man named Stoker, who later sold it to a man by the name of Williams.
His son George W. Dunkin died in the 1860's and Mathew got custody of his 4 children but later Georges wife Cathrine and her second husband took Matthew to court and won custody of them back.
Around 1880 Mathew was declared insane and was suppose to go to the Austin asylum but there is no record of him ever going, we do not know if he passed away before he went or not.
The story that was passed down though the family is that Mathews second wife Frances and her future husband helped Mathew on to the next life. But no one knows if there is any truth in that or not. No one knows what year Mathew passed away.
Mathew was living in Texas and went back to Georgia to marry his second wife Frances Jane Smith Mobley, he then brought her to Texas with him to live.

Her maiden name is beleived to be Willis, but do not know for sure. She was living in Alabama with one of her sons and Mathew had already moved to Texas in 1850. Her and Mathew had divorced before she moved to Texas.
