JOHANN VALENTIN⁷ FREY (HANS PETER⁶, JOHANN JACOB⁵, GREGORIUS⁴, JOHAN HEINRICH³, JORG², MARTI¹)¹ was born 9 May 1721 in Wingen, Alsace, Germany, and died 13 Sep 1798 in Hope, Stokes Co., North Carolina ². He married ANNA MARIA BARBARA BINCKELE 29 Apr 1742 in Upper Heidelberg Twp., Berks Co., Pennsylvania, daughter of PETER BINCKELE and ANNA WERLYN. She was born 1 Jun 1722 in Schweiz, Alsace, Germany, and died 6 Jan 1791 in Hope (Salem), Stokes Co., North Carolina.

Notes for JOHANN VALENTIN FREY:
Abstracts of Old North Carolina Wills 1760 to 1780, p. 288 shows Valetine Fry's Will, dated 25 Aug 1797, being probated and mentions Michael, Valentine, Henry, John & Peter as heirs, as well as five daughters and their husbands.
On 26 Sep 1750 Valentine Frey is given a warrant for 50 acres of land. On 3 Jun 1755, he acquired another 50 acres. (Penn. Archives Third Series, Vol. 24, pgs 409-410).

Due to his Moravian religious beliefs, he did not carry arms during the Revolutionary War. He did help his fellow countrymen in their efforts, and George Washington allowed his sons and daughters to be admitted into the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) on February 27, 1776.

Notes for ANNA MARIA BARBARA BINCKELE:
AKA: Anna Maria Elizabeth Binckle. Alternate birthdate on some records 26 Dec 1722.
She may not be the daughter of Peter Binckele, but of his brother Johannes, or of a Hans Michael Binckele who is associated with Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania in the East Cocalico area.

Reasons why she may not be Peter's daughter:
1. Her Moravian Lebenslauf, or funeral memoir, states that she was born in 1722, three years before Peter and Anna Maria were married.
2. The marriage to Matthias Meyer took place about 1738, and that to Johann Valentin Frey in 1742, in East Cocalico Twp, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, and area where Peter and Anna Maria are not known to have lived.
3. The child listed as born to Peter and Anna Maria in 1725 is listed in the York, Pennsylvania Moravian church records as Maria, not as Anna Maria Barbara or Anna Barbara, and there is a younger daughter, Anna Barbara, born 1741, whereas the woman who married Matthias Meyer and Valentin Frey is consistently referred to in later records as Barbara, not Maria.
4. In this culture and area a marriage at 13 (if born 1725) to Matthias Meyer would've been extremely unusual; marriage at 16 to Valentin Frey would still have been quite young.
