Draper Camden Shaffer (son of Henry Shaffer) was born May 26, 1842 in Barbour County near Philippi, and died January 25, 1908. He married (1) Mary Elsey. He married (2) Hannah Susan Adams on December 1890, daughter of William Mc Adams and Mary Martha Wotring.

Served in the Union Army four years and survived 22 heavy battles, including
Bull Run, Antietam, Droup? Mt., and the 7 day battle in the Wilderness. He was
a witness to Lee's surrender to Grant and heard the Confererate soldiers shout
"Let's fight it out!" To this Lee responded, "It's all over." DCS moved to the
Aurora area in 1870 and settled in Pine Run on the Aurora Pike close to Terra
Alta.
