Annie Laura Blanchflower (daughter of John Coleman Blanchflower and Alice Louisa Courtman) was born May 15, 1880 in Yarmouth,Norfolk, and died April 23, 1969 in Essondale, B.C.. She married William Edward Punter in Luton,Bedfordshire, son of Henry William Punter and Emily.

Includes NotesNotes for Annie Laura Blanchflower:
Annie Laura was quite musical and artistic, a good voice, pianist, leather worker, seamstress and a rug hooker. She also gardened and made up plenty of preserves. Very set in her ways, self important and bigoted. She had little or no use for in-laws, and was quite open about it.

She took a particular dislike to her two year old grandson, and while she was looking after him and her grand-daughter,constantly found fault with him, during meal times he was made to sit on a bench, with no back, and he would often as not fall backwards, and then receive a scolding. He always seemed to be "a bad boy", and on one occasion, she placed him on the top of the basement stairs, shut the door and left him there in the dark as punishment . He stepped back, and fell to the concrete floor breaking his collar bone and suffering bruises. She scolded him again, and told him:" You aren't hurt, quit shaking"! (Don't ever tell him there is no hell, he's been there!)

Her husband William became asphyxiated from gas leaking from a faulty gas cooking range, and was hospitalized for about a week, and on being discharged, the doctor told him to take some short walks to build up his stamina. He came home from one of those walks, and found a suitcase with all of his clothes in it on the front porch! They then separated, and went their own ways. Around 1950, Annie decided to return to England for the rest of her life. She packed all her preserves, feather bed, and everything else she could gather together. Within months, she was complaining about the dampness, the dirtiness, and the suite she was living in! She returned two years later, bitterly upset about her relatives in the old country, and upset when she got back because her husband didn't want her back!

In later years, she had abdominal surgery, and either during or shortly thereafter suffered brain damage. She spent the last years of her life in the Provincial Mental Hospital not recognizing either of her two eldest daughters who visited her two to three times a month.
