James (Dempsey) Carroll (b. 1711, d. 1776)

James (Dempsey) Carroll (son of Daniel Carroll and Mary Travers(?)) was born 1711 in Westmoreland Co., VA, and died 1776 in Leesburg, Loudoun Co. VA. He married Rebekah Heath Smith, daughter of William Heath and Mary (Ann) Wilson.

James probably married Rebekah Heath Smith between 15 March 1764( the last record of Elizabeth, the second wife of James Demps Carroll. . . Their first child was born in 1766. Rebekah had one child, William Smith from a previoius marriage in Md. to William Smith Sr. He was named an heir in Dempsey's will. Rebekah died after 8 March 1793 when she consented to the marriage of their daughter Cynthia in Harrison Count, (Clarksburg) Va. Rebekah was buried in the Old Palatine or Haymond burying ground (now Maple Grove on Morgantown Avenue in Fairmont, WV beside Cynthia and her husband, William Haymond.(From the Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, "Dempse Carrell: A Study: by Nancy Fratt, Vol. 27.
