Notes for Irvin Earl Hightower: Irvin and Marsh Perryman were hoeing corn when a storm came up. It wasn't raining yet, so they stopped under a sycamore tree to sharpen their hoes. The tree was struck by lightning and killed them both.
"The Marshfield Chronicle" July 28, 1898 : Earl Hightower, 12 yr. old son of Judge T. R. Hightower living in Union Twp., and a young man aged 22 yrs. by the name of Marshall Perryman, were struck by lightning and instantly killed Monday last.
