* The Westlotorn Family Home Page*

Updated September 6, 2000

While my surname is Hynes I am devoting this page to my mother's surname, which was "Westlotorn" or any possible variation of it such as "Westloton" or "Westloten" or "Westleten". The family originated in England and the first occurence that I know of on this continent was in New Brunswick, Canada in St John, sometime in the late 1700's and early 1800's. The name is near to being extinct, at least in the USA and Canada, and I have located many of the surviving males that carry the name, at least, above the age of 18.
Beyond my great grandfather, John Sayre Westlotorn, I have much conflicting information but family oral tradition passed on by means of a couple of hand written pages by my mother, says that he was the youngest son of William George Westlotorn who was the eldest son of Lord William George Westlotorn of England and that he was born in St John, New Brunswick, Canada on April 14, 1824. If this is true, it may help explain some of the conflicting information that I have concerning the Westlotorn names that appear in England and New Brunswick, Canada at the same time.

While the surname itself is relatively rare it seems that the family had a tradition of using given names over and over in various combinations, making the rebuilding of a family tree very difficult

I would like to hear from any males or females that either carry the name themselves or have it somewhere in their history. I would be more than happy to share information that I have.
