He was seated in Flornoy in 1509. The family, at the beginning of the sixteenth century and possibly for several centuries prior, was seated at Flornoy, an estate in Champagne (modern - Haute Marne), a few miles from Vassy. The family owned other lands and messuages in the vicinity. Escutcheon charges and device indicate that the surname was derived from the name of the estate. The ancient estate is now marked only by the small village of Flornoy, situated on a rivulet by the same name.
