William Inwood was born in England and married Hannah Cheuter in 1812 in Surrey County. They came to America in 1819 via Baltimore and sailed down the Ohio River on a flatboat, landing in Evansville, IN. He was a whip-sawer by trade and was involved in the building of some of Evansville's first homes. They are buried in the Oak Hill Cemetary in Evansville.Their son, also named William, was born February 11, 1831 in Evansville. According to the 1871 Evansville Directory, he was a "produce broker and dealer in furs, hides, rags, feathers, pelts..." He was also a Civil War veteran. On December 31, 1851 he married Jane Ashley, daughter of Henry A. and Mary Luke Ashley. The Ashleys had come from London via New Orleans and travelled up the Mississippi during the Winter of 1849-1850, Mary being pregnant with their 10th child. William died June 7, 1902, and his wife, July 7, 1908, and are buried in Evansville. Their son, Edward Josephus Inwood was born May 6, 1860 in Evansville. By 1885, he had moved to Clinton County, OH and married Hattie Lincoln Nickerson, daughter of Joshua and Abigail Collett Nickerson. They had seven children: Vernon Granville, Abbie J., Ashley C., Joshua N., Clark N., Lila S., and Emily. Edward died in 1934 and Hattie in 1940. They are buried in the Springfield Cemetary in Clinton County. Vernon Granville Inwood was born May 31, 1886 in Clinton County. He was married August 6, 1905 in Oklahoma to Elsie Mae Dixon, daughter of Homer Stuart and Anne Suydam Dixon. They returned to Clinton County and raised 9 children: Homer D. (b.1906, d. 1910), Lucille, Hattie, Charles E. (b. March 22, 1911), Willard Nickerson (b. Sept 12, 1912), Mary Ellen, Kathleen (b. Oct 2, 1920), Clark, and Ruth.The descendants of Vernon and Elsie Inwood gather for a reunion every year during the month of October.
