* The James W. Asher Family Homepage*

Updated September 6, 2000

James W. Asher was born ca 1829 in Roane county, Tennessee. He married Senith Alzadie Galbraith 14 December 1862 in Newton county, Arkansas. Three months later he enlisted with the 1st Arkansas Union Infantry Volunteers in Newton county. After the war, James and Senith made their home in Newton county, in the Mt. Judea area and had four boys: William T. born in 1867, John Henry born in 1869, and twins Joseph Benjamin and Archie born in 1870. James died 19 April 1871. Senith remarried in 1874 to William H. Langston and shortly moved to Jenkins, Barry county, Missouri. It has been reported that Senith left her children behind with neighbors to care for while she and Mr. Langston homesteaded in Missouri. She and Mr. Langston had a child named Sam.
James and Senith are my gggrandparents. I have found them on the 1870 Newton county, AR census. A lady by the name of Mary Gilbreth is listed in the household. I am sure she is Senith's mother. On the 1860 Newton county, AR census, Mary Gilbreth is listed in the home of James and Sarah J. Asher. James is probably a cousin to my gggrandfather and Sarah is probably Senith's sister.

I am trying to find out who James W. and Senith's parents were and who there siblings were, if they had any. I would also like to find out what happened to Archie and Sam. Any information would be greatly appreciated and I would be most happy to share information.
