My mother was Sally Bliss DICKEY. Other surnames in her line:WATERMAN, WITTEN, CUTLER, ECHOLS, MURPHY, IRWIN, TANNER, PATTERSON, MCCORCLE, CECIL, GITTINGS, LAIRD, KERR, PICKENS, HUMPHREY, BEAL, LINCOLN, NORTON, BALCH, CARGILL, HAYWARD, BROWN,BOURNE, GILL, GILMAN, HERSEY, CROADE, CHUBBUCK, THAXTER, CHURCH, CAKEBREAD, MOORE, SNOW, GREEN, CARTER, CLARK, BOSWORTH, GUTTERSON, SHEPARD, PUTNAM, PRENTICE,, SUMNER, CLAPP,DANIELS, HOLBROOK,HOBART, DEWEY, REMCHING, RYSE, WINTHROP, DOWNING, WHALE, GOULD, HOOKER, GOODSPEED, PRINCE, MOULTON, etc. I may have repeated some of the above.

I had five ancestors of Scottish lineage who fought in the Revolutionary War, one being killed at the Battle of Kings Mountain, S.C.: Ensign James LAIRD. Through the five: CARGILL, DICKEY, McCORCLE, LAIRD and PATTERSON, I can claim eleven clan tartans:
Drummond, Douglas, McLaren, Gunn, MacCorquodale, MacLeon, Farquharson, Lamont, MacAulay, and MacLaren. I'm very proud of my Scottish heritage, and all the ancestors who helped settle this country and fight for it.

On my English side (most of the others mentioned, above) Sir Gervase Cutler (at least my great aunt said so) served as standard-bearer for the king in the Wars of the Roses. His descendent, my g-g-g-grandfather, MANASSEH CUTLER, help push through the Northwest Passage treaty, when he was in Congress, and he and Rufus Putnam were depicted on a commemerative postage stamp, I think about 1937. He, Manasseh, was born in Killingly, CT, and became a medical doctor, a minister, a congressman, and a botonist. He was written up in the Encyclopedia Britannica. I have a two-volume set of his "Life, Journals and Correspondence" published by his grandchildren.

Most of my ancestors were normal, everyday folks like me, mostly farmers, and I'm proud of them, too. Where would we be without them?

On my father's side: SELLERS, HUDDLESTON, COOK(E), TOLBERT.

My husband's surnames are: HENDERSON, IRBY, LINSKEY, STEPHENS, STOKES, and SUTTON.
