Searching for accurate information on the Ancestors of Christopher Irvin(e) and Prudence Echols who, in 1801 at Guntersville, Marshall County, AL. gave birth to John Echols Irvin (or Irvine).

So far I have found two schools of thought.
(1) That Christopher is the son of William Irvine and Ann Craig and that William and his two sons (Christopher and David) came to this country between 1720-1730. While this is the most prevalent belief I've come across, It seems highly unlikely to me because Christopher would have been at least seventy years old when John was born.

(2) That Christopher is the son of Alexander Irvin and a Miss Galt (or Gault). According to WFT Vol IV CD #18 Pedigree #2234,
this seems the most likely.

Any help in gaining additional information would be appreciated.
I would be willing to share any other information I have in return.
