Notes for J
OHN CHRISTIAN ISAAK (OTTMAR):
John Christian Ottmar's (birth name Christian Ottmar) mother died when he was 8 days old. His birth name was Christian Ottmar.

John was cared for by the Stueckle family and Mrs. Stueckle nursed him with her own baby. He was adopted by John and Elizabeth Isaak of Eureka, South Dakota when he was 3 weeks old. He was adopted under the name of Christian Ottmar.

John Ottmar asked the Isaak's to have Christian baptized and he was and given the name:

                  John Oscar Christian Isaak

John Ottmar remarried eight months later to Katharina Broeckel and they tried to get his son back but was unsuccessful.

The Ottmar Family live in Greenwily, S. Dakota and own a petroleum station and deliver gas, oil and heating fuel to farmers. John C's. mother and father are buried in a family cemetery as well as his sisters and brothers that died in infancy.

The Isaaks owned a general merchandise store in Eureka, S. Dakota. The Isaak's also cared for two other Foster children. (Lina Bickman, Lodi California and Alvina Schoults) Thier business failed four years later and they moved to Harvey N. Dakota where they farmed for 10 years.

The Isaaks would visit the Ottmars when John Cristian was young and when they moved to Harvey, N. Dakota, they continued to visit but never brought John Christian.

John Christian only went to school about 3 months in each year and not at all after he was 16 years old. He did not receive a diploma from the 8th grade.

They moved to Washington in 1910 when John C. was 14 or 15 years old.

They settled on rented land northwest of Marlin, WA.

In those days they had what was called "A Mothers Inheritance" When John Christians mother died, five dollars was deposited in the bank. Through the years, this gained ten dollars interest.

John Ottmar came to visit his son, Christian, in Washington and gave him the $15. At this time he was informed he was legally adopted. This was unknown to him and came as a real shock. He had received a few letters from his brothers in S. Dakota and they had always called him brother, but he never realized that they really were his own true brothers. He said if he had known that he was adopted, he would have left the Isaaks while still quite young.

John C. Isaak (age 20) married Mary K. Hoff in 1916 and had three children. Alvin, Harold and Ruth.

Mary K. died in 1922 and he married a widow, Dorothea Radanovsky in 1924. She had three children from her first marriage: Eva, Carl and Viola.

John C. Isaak and Dorothea had three more children while they lived in Marlin: Florence, Ione and E. John. This is the family that came to Hartline in 1929. One more child, Gordon was born at Hartline.
