Hannila and Carlson and Isley Family Trees
Hannila and Carlson Family Trees
In researching my great-grandparents, Heikki and Maria Hannila, who came from Kalajoki, Finland and in joining a Bichon Frise Discussion Chat List on the internet, I found my Finnish cousins through a Finnish Bichon Frise Breeder. In May 1998, my Cousin, Marie Darlin and I traveled to Kalajoki and enjoyed a wonderful visit with our Finnish cousins, Risto and Kari Koivu.
We also traveled to Kalmar, Sweden where my other grandfather was born. I was unable to find relatives there but did leave a letter in the cathedral guest book wishing to find relatives.
The Hannilas and my Swedish grandfather Peter August Olsen Carlson came to Alaska during the Gold Rush era and ended up living out their lives in Juneau, Alaska, where my mother and sister and I were born and raised. Cousin Marie, my son Scott and niece Connie Keithahn and nephew Paul Keithahn still live there.
The Isley Family Tree
A few years ago, Roberta Isley, my husband Elzie's sister-in-law did a study of the Isley Family Tree and even visited the area in North Carolina and Georgia where the first immigrants of the Isleys lived, even reading headstones in the cemetaries. I used much of her work in the family tree I prepared for the Isleys and would really appreciate finding others on the East Coast who could tie the loose ends of the family together.
Respectfully submitted, Sandy Isley
