For those of you who are wondering who I am, my name is Elizabeth Avila (Gonzales) Ivanov. My parents are Salvador & Maria Elena "Nena" Chavez (Avila) Gonzales. My mother is the 9th child of Leonardo Roman Avla and Trinidad Tafoya (Chavez) Avila. I am currently in the process of documenting my mother's family history and charting our Family Tree. This web site is only part of that process.
This project was inspired by two sets of cousins who initiated genealogy projects related to this one some years ago. From January 1994 - September 1995, Steve and Rosemary (Rodriguez) Sandoval, diligently researched Steve's family tree . They started a family newsletter called "The Super Dooper Pooper Scooper" to share their research and connect with as many family members as possible. They succeded quite well. Ultimately, they orchestrated The largest family reunion I had ever been to.
The second cousin to persue our geneaology, was Ignacio "Chin" Cruz Roman, who concentrated his research on the Roman side of the family. Ignacio wrote extensive and incredibly detailed accounts of his family's history in his "Roman Family Newsletter" from July 1994 - June 1995. Ignacio was also quite involved in several reunions including the huge one that Steve and Rosemary hosted.
The fortitude and dedication in conducting extensive research by these cousins should be highly commended. Generations to come will benifit from they're loving comitment to painting a picture of our past and reminding us who we are.
As the third cousin to come forward onto the genealogy scene here, I'd like to take their work one step further and establish three basic goals. The first, being to document our family history into a common place for future generations to enjoy. What form that will take remains to be seen, a book, a web-site, who knows. Secondly, I'd like to continue their work by digging even deeper into our ancestry. Hopefully, we may be able to trace our lineages all the way back to Europe. Then finally, I'd like to provide a central social hub where we can all go to for family news and events.
If this sounds like a life-long project to you, then maybe it is. I certainly hope so! The best part of this project is that we can all journey together. At this time the most pressing issue is to collect the basic information. Who you are, your parents, siblings, spouses and children? When were these family members born, when did they marry and finally, when did the pass away?
If you have an interest in our family history, then I welcome your participation. No matter which branch you belong to, your efforts to provide accurate information (for the benefit of all) are always welcomed. My intentions here are not to seek accolades or riches. I only seek discovery. So, as in life we are all part of a never ending journey of discovery, and adventure and I endeavor to be an active participant in it! I hope that you will contact me with suggestions to improve this web site, information to enhance it or to simply say hello. Thank you and may God shine his face upon you.
