This family tree has been derived from the Athreya gothra vamsavali compiled by Mr.S. Krishna, of Chennai. It traces ten generations of the descendants of Suryanarayana Sastrigal of Thirunelveli. As this vamsavali grows, we will be adding the members of other gothrams and families so that it will encompass all families that have descended from or married into this tree.

If you are a part of this tree, please send me details of any spelling corrections, family information, biographical sketches or other information that you may consider pertinent to this venture. I will be happy to add it to the tree as soon as possible.

The original foreword of the Athreya Gothra vamsavali follows:

---------------------------------------------------------------

Family charts maintained by our forefathers facilitated the recording of the descendants of each clan. As soon as every newborn was ushered into the world, his name was recorded faithfully.

The need to earn a livelihood and the shrinking opportunity levels within the country drove away the progeny of successive generations to the far corners of the world, as a result of which most of them have virtually forgotten our glorious past and traditions. Such generations have benefitted from the aforesaid charts in getting an awareness of their roots, anscestral connections and kinsmen.

The hope of maintaining a continuity has brightened in recent times with our computer professionals finding a solution through various programmes on family trees. Some gothrams from the south have put together their family details in the form of books. A chance encounter with such a book encouraged us to produce this volume for the constituents of Athreya gothram of Veeravanallur.

During the process of collecting data, a suggestion was made for us to include the names of daughters also. This has been to the extent of their being the daughters. Expansion of their families further is not justified, as, after marriage they migrate to other gothrams. As a tribute to mothers, we have included the names of spouses, but this has been restricted to the last few generations due to non-availability of reliable information on earlier ones. Wherever the existence of progreny was known but their names was not, we have allotted them spaces and numbers.

This vamsavali is just a beginning. A prelude to the launching of a web site for the gothram. Despite the best of care, we are afraid a few errors and inaccuracies may still linger on. These can always be corrected if those concerned appraise us with correct details.

Several individuals have assisted us in this venture. The ancient charts lent to us by Mr. T.A. Neelakantan and Mr. V.G. Sundaram have been of immense value in forming the base for the exercise. The compilation of data and production of charts were carried out by Pertinax Advertising Consultants. Mr. V.V. Sundaram of Covansys (India) Limited has been kind enough to sponsor the cost of production.
