Notes for J
OHN JACOB BAGHTEL:
John 'Baghtel' purchased NW 1/4 Sec 10 Twp 9 Range 8 Stark County, Ohio, from the Steubenville land office under Credit system law on 19 June 1813. Prior to completing payment he assigned his right to Jacob to whom was issued Credit Certificate 2828. An imperfect record indicates that it was intended to issue a patent to Jacob 'Baghtel' for said tract 19 June 1813, but it cannot be determined whether one did actually issue. Volume 18 pg 408 Steubenville Land Office Records. (copy on file.)

There is no signature by the President of the United States or of the Commissioner of the General Land Office. Abstract was through Jacob 'Baghtel'.

The land was probably received from the United States, but was never recorded. It was on the road from Canton to Sandyville, Ohio. This parcel contained 142.84 acres on records although it has been said to have contained 167.65 acres upon purchase. Melscheimer Cemetery was reportedly taken from this land parcel. This is the location of the Beghtel homestead from the period of 1813 through 1847, when Frederick died and some of his heirs emigrated to Indiana.
This is the will of Hans Jacob, father of this John, who was known as 'Eldest John'.

Notes for G
EORGE BACHTEL:
JoAnne Brauneller 16269 County Rd 9 Jenera OH 45841-8957 contributed information about this branch of the family, first in February 1999 and later.

JoAnn is not sure Esther died, but perhaps left George. November 15, 1999 there is information on Ancestry Com Message Board that Esther re-married because George died. More research needed as to what happened. We know George remarried Catherine Pringle. This researcher is saying that Esther was her ancestor and she re-married! This line of George and Esther Eller had always reported that George died and Esther then re-married.

Letter from James Eaton February 12, 1999, records some of the facts about this family and where located as he made the contact with JoAnne.

Marriage Record of George Bechtel and Esther Eller from "Maryland Records Colonial Revolutionary, County and Church and Original Sources" by Gaius Marcus Brumbaugh, M.S. M.D. Litt.D. Washinfton D.C. Baltimore Genealogical Publishing Company 1967 Volume II, pg. 502. (Copy on file) States they were married in Frederick County MD. It also gives her parents.

When I began to research the Beghtels Jim Eaton sent me copy from a Bible Record of his grandmother's, Lulu Beghtel Oliver, that he thought Marilyn Eaton Jacobs had in her possession. She does not nor does their brother, Ralph. Jim remembers seeing it at the home of his grandmother and copying the information for her at one time. It was the marriages of a Susanna, Catherine and Barbara Bachtel who were found to be the daughters of this George. The names of their spouses were included. They would have been 1st cousins of our grt grt grand Peter Beghtel who came into Wabash County cir. 1847. We have no idea why they were in this Bible, nor have we ever found the Bible again. However, these dates provided us with some proven information to work with and encouraged us to do the Beghtel Family History. All of this record has been found and confirmed.

At the time George married Ester (Esther) Eller the Beghtels lived in Washington/Frederick County Maryland.
