19.PETER3 BEGHTEL (FREDERICK2BECHTEL, HANS JACOB1) was born October 18, 1816 in Pike/Plain Twp Stark County Ohio, and died April 27, 1894 in MonteithGuthrie CountyIowa. He married EVE KLINE April 09, 1840 in Lawrence TwpTuscarawas County Ohio, daughter of PHILIP KLINE and MARGARET CAGAN.She was born September 15, 1819 in Sandy TwpTuscarawas CountyOhio, and died July 25, 1903 in MonteithGuthrie CountyIowa.
Notes for PETER BEGHTEL:
Peter was born in Pike TwpStark CountyOhio.Hemoved to Summit TwpGreen County after his marriage in 1840 and was employed as a carpenter.Abt. 1847 he and Eve with sons Jacob and William removed to Elkhart County Indiana. Sometime after the 1850 census he bought land in Wabash County Indiana. This was north of Wabash on what later became the Brodbeck Seed Farm.It is near the Wallace Cemeterywhere Eve's parents and daughter Ella are buried.School No. 15 became Chippewa Elementary and High School later and the children attended there.Bachelor Creek Church of Christ is near and there is a Mrs. Rousey on their records. In the 1880 Census Peter and Eve are listed in Noble Twp with Edgar age 21, a farmer, Ella age 16, and Margaret Kline, Eve's Mother, age 74. Margaret died on May 21,1882, Eve'sFather had died July 14, 1868) and Ella died onOctober 12, 1882.We wonder if this influenced Peter and Eve to emigrate to Iowa in 1884?Edgar traveled with them and settled in Nebraska. We don't know if Jacob and Williams counterfeiting charges might have influenced them to leave the area, but wonder if it did not.Perhaps they wanted Edgar to go to a different georgraphical area.

Notes for PHILIP BEGHTEL: Blanche Beghtel Fox, an Iowa relative, says he was married and had a daughter, but we find no records of this... he lived with different relatives from time to time ... always seemed to call North Webster, Indiana, home. His name appears in various newspapers there with advertising abouthim as a blacksmith.Nephew, Monson Beghtel, seemed to keep most in touch with him... he once took his granddaughter, Jane, to visit him in North Webster and he was living with a young couple who seemed to care about him.On August 10, 1933, he applied for an Old Age Pension in Kosciusko County.Monson and Jane attended his funeral at North Webster. He had no vault so Monson talked to the undertaker about providing a cement slab for the top of the coffin.Jeanette Beghtel Kisner, a grt neice remembers him visiting them in Urbana, Indiana, and he ate peas on a knife.I remember him as a tall, lanky man with a very gentle manner.Picture on file with his brother Jacob.
