| I Am researching the family histories of Charles Jackson & Rachel Hill. they were a free Black husband & wife during slavery in Dorchester County Maryland. Charles was born abt 1814 and Rachel was born abt 1820. There is nothing known about their parents, brothers or sisters. They owned a parcel of land located in Salem Maryland on route 50 across from what used to be Dean’s canning factory. It is adjacent to the property owned by the Late Norman Chase. According to the 1860 census Charles and Rachel had the following children: Samuel, Isaac, Rachel, Delia, Evan (pronounced E-Van), Thomas, Draper, Alexander, Charles, Sarah, John, Mary and Noah. |
