Notes for John H. Allgood:
I believe I have found John in the 1860 Wilkes county, Georgia census in the household of G. M. Maxwell (27). It has been speculated upon that John may be a cousin to the Royals.

I have also found a John Allgood approximately the right age in Mecklenburg county, VA in 1860 (28).

In extract published in The Clarke-Oconee Genealogical Society (COGS) Quarterly, Vol. 8, No. 2 of Persons who signed the AMNESTY OATH at ATHENS, CLARKE, GEORGIA, J. H. Allgood, Pvt of 38th Ga Inf. is described as 5'9", of fair complexion with dark hair and blue eyes on Sept 25, 1865.

On Aug 12, 1870, John Allgood's personal worth was $200.

In the 1889 Athens City Directory, John operated a temperance (non-alcoholic) saloon and billiard room at 12 Wall St.
